Lust For Life

A long time in the salty sea
the sea anemone
attached to coral and stone
waits
until a passing fish
triggers
venom-filled
tentacles.
Anemone fires
a harpoon filament,
injects the fish with toxin
and gently, ever so gently,
the tentacles guide the prey
into anemone's mouth.

Brown Sunday

Brown emits
no light,
to astronomers'
eyes.
No matter...
brown
grounds,
stimulates
the appetite.

Garter Snake

Twenty-four hours in a day times
nine days equals
216 hours of rain,
after which a ball of fire
in the sky
entices
you from the deck's
underbelly
onto the warm stone.

Elephant's Eye

In the
Elephant's Eye
my-
self reflected.
Though
there's no
evidence of
Ancient Burial Grounds,
there's proof
they do
caress
the bones
of their dead

and weep.

Birth Day

You emerge
Perfectly formed
From the moist, warm
Womb.
The first breath
Is harsh.
You hiss with disdain
As she calmly cleans you,
Nudges you,
Encourages you,
Until you sigh
with weak resign
And rise
To meet
Your life.
